Estate Planning Made Easy for Your Family

Get Peace of Mind for Your Children

By Mary Campbell, Lodi, CA Publisher October 4, 2019

Will and Trust. What comes to mind when you think of these two words? What came to my mind was elderly people, like my grandparent's age, who just needed some documents to tell who would receive their belongings. I was shocked to find out that this is something I should probably have by now in my mid-30’s with kids and a house.

When I looked into doing my will or trust, it just felt overwhelming, with so much information and high costs. Why wouldn’t everything just naturally go to my kids? Why do I need these documents done? What would happen if I didn’t do them and something happened to me?

Thanks to an online company called Trust & Will, my questions were all answered and in less than half an hour I had completed my Living Trust for a fraction of the price.

A Will-Based Estate Plan ($69) includes a customized Last Will & Testament document that reflects your specific wishes and a state-specific legal document that adheres to your state laws. This is generally for people who have children under 18, who want to specify their health care wishes, or who want to leave gifts to charity.

A Trust-Based Estate Plan ($399) helps to seamlessly pass your assets to your beneficiaries while avoiding probate court. This plan will also specify your wishes for your children’s guardians and health care with customized and state-specific documents. This is generally for people own their own home and/or business, have assets totaling more than $100k, who have kids under 18, and who want to specify their health care wishes. This is the step up from the Will-Based Estate Plan.

Since we own our home and have children under 18, we chose to get the Trust-Based Estate Plan. As with most things online, I wanted to vet this website and make sure that it was offering me solid, law binding documents with my specific wishes. I was pleased to find that this site is built by lawyers and that all my documents have an experienced legal team standing behind them. Trust & Will also offers great customer service, with live chat options during their business hours to help you as you complete your documents. There is a 30-day money-back guarantee, so if you are dissatisfied with your documents, you can get a full refund.

Thinking about what will happen when I am no longer walking this Earth was definitely not my favorite thing, but the document process took me less than 15 minutes to complete, which was such a relief. I can now feel comfortable that my wishes will be met and that my kids will be cared for after I’m gone.

When I had completed with my Living Trust documents, they processed them according to California Law and I simply printed them out (or opt to have it shipped to you at an additional fee) and my husband and I will take it to a notary to have it signed. We will store the notarized copy in our safe and provide a copy to our families.

You may be thinking, that sounds great, but maybe not today. I challenge you to think “why not today?” Your children are the most important things in your life, and although we never want anything to happen to us, it is a relief to know that my wishes will be implemented.
