A while back, I wrote a review about Natrol's Melatonin for adults, a supplement that can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. I found it to work really well for me, and loved the quick-dissolve form, enabling me to keep it bedside (no water needed). You can read the full review HERE.
Well, no surprise, like mama, like son, one of my kids (Evan, age 10) has trouble falling asleep sometimes too! He already knows all of my falling asleep tips and tricks, but sometimes nothing works. The next day, he's grumpy and feeling bad. Evan also knows that sometimes I take melatonin to help me fall asleep. Like when we are traveling and everyone needs to go to sleep early and at the same time! He also understands my reluctance in giving him a supplement formulated for adults, and was rightfully annoyed. So, we were both really excited to hear about Natrol's new Kids Melatonin! For those times when nothing else works, now there's a backup plan for him.
Evan was anxious to try Natrol Kids Melatonin right away. The next day, the first thing he said was "Slept good!" Knowing that I am writing a review, and would want a little more detail than that, he also said with dramatic flair, "it tastes like strawberry candy, except fresh and light... not even artificial." This made me laugh, because of the way he said it, but it is true. I like the strawberry taste too.
A few days later, Evan's little brother Cole (age 8) asked, "Can I have my own bottle of that sleep stuff?" When I asked why, he said he had decided to try it too and "yeah, it works pretty good! I fell asleep pretty fast when I tried to." Of course, this was quickly followed up with a discussion about being sure to ask mom and dad before taking something that belongs to Evan first! I wasn't too worried though. The kids' formula only contains 1 mg of melatonin and is 100% drug-free.
Besides the Fast Dissolve tablets we tried, Natrol Kids Melatonin also comes in another easy-to-take, tasty form, Gummies. Both are vegetarian, non-GMO and free of artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.
Although melatonin is pediatrician-recommended, 100% drug-free and non-habit forming, I still want to make sure my kids know it is a solution only for occasional sleeplessness. Evan was so appreciating the fact that he was feeling much better after a few days of good rest that he wanted to keep taking it! I told him that now that he's gotten into a good rhythm of falling asleep, he should try a guided meditation to help him fall asleep. I was relieved to hear the next day that the meditation worked! Natrol had done its job, until the next time our sleep routines get disrupted.
Halloween is coming up! This is the time of year our sleep schedules are constantly disrupted by late-night activities and late-night sugar injections. I'm so happy to know I can rely on Natrol's Kids Melatonin to get the guys back on track when life derails our sleep routines.
