Brownie-cake Recipe for Valentine's Day

This tasty chocolate cake is simple to bake and easy to finish eating!

Need a simple cake idea for this upcoming Valentine's Day? Or do you love chocolate cake and brownies? Here's a recipe for a layered brownie/chocolate cake!

To make this layered cake you can take any two box recipes for brownie and chocolate cake, or your favorite from-scratch brownie and chocolate cake recipes. 

Basic Ingredients / Necessary Items:

- Heart cake container (You can get this from a grocery store as a one-time-use item, or get a metal cake mold)

- Cake mix / Brownie mix

- Eggs 

- Water

- Canola / Vegetable oil

- Decoration materials - Icing, Food coloring, sprinkles, etc.

- Mixing cups 

- Bowl(s)

- Mixing / Icing utensils


After making both your brownie and chocolate cake mixes, separate half of the brownie mix and pour it into the bottom half of the heart shaped container. You can adjust the size of the brownie portion to your liking (decide whether you want more brownie than cake, more cake than brownie, or even layers). 

Next, fill the remaining half of the container with your cake mix. If there is enough left over from both, you can use the leftover mixture to make another cake or cupcakes. 

Time to put your cakes in the oven! For these 13 x 9 cakes, I baked them at 350F for 27 minutes.


For icing, I used a white icing base to spread over the entirety of one cake. Next, I used a red icing with a piping tube to write "BE MINE" on the cake, and drew on some roses. 


Here's my finished cakes! With the leftover mixture I was able to make a second cake, and I outlined it with icing to make it simple. I hope you have fun baking and enjoying your Valentine's Day with loved ones!
